Storytime at night has gotten interesting. Our current schedule is to pick out a book (or two or eight) before bed, and once it is read, we are requested to “tell another story” once the lights are off. These stories are held to a very high value, and our caliber as tale-spinners is held quite accountable if we make them too silly or stupid. (The kid’s a critic!).

Of course, this means Mom and Dad are required to flex our creativity, and try to weave in something about transformers, or events of the current day, in order to satisfy the rigors of the evening Adventure-tale.

So the other night, The story was described as follows (paraphrased for content and time, this stories tend to last a good 20 minutes due to “what happened next!?!!?!!” syndrome. Continue Reading »

This weekend was a nice one, relaxing after vacation, spending some time cleaning up the yard, and planning a nice trip on Sunday to water-test a new canoe my father-in-law built himself. (Wow, I need to learn more multi-talented things and know how to build Stuff.)

Anyway, the canoe trip was fun, took my a while to remember all the steering tricks to keep the boat going remotely forward, and enjoying our little one dragging his arm through the water as we cruised the small lake. Short trip, only an hour or so, but a fun diversion.

Then, as we ate dinner and joked a bit how out of shape my arms were, the Hay wagon arrives with our load of bales….*sigh*

So, we spent the better part of Sunday evening unloading hay into the barn. Each bale is not THAT heavy really, but once the daylight failed and we still had a good quarter of the wagon to unload, it became less “stack them nicely at the far end of the barn” and much more a matter of “Get them unloaded and in hte ilseway so we can deal with later”.

Today, my arms and legs are SORE! It’s a good sore, of course, knowing I actually did some manual labor to help contrast the desk-side lethargy of normal career lately, but I’m still a bit sore.

Good to know that the horses will get enough to eat this winter though. So it’s overall, a good way to spend a sunday.

We took a short, local family vacation earlier this week. Saturday-thru-Wednesday. It was wonderful!

We decided to go camping in a nearby state park, which combined the two main “vacation strategies” we have each year, Camping, or Beach-swimming. While Delta Lake is not quite the ocean, it’s a big body of water you can swim in and build sand sculptures around. Works for me! Pixsley Falls state park is a tiny little place, somewhat off the beaten track, but within 20 miles of our house. Close enough for a quick jaunt home if storms destroyed out tent (they did not), but far enough away that we felt like we were out on vacation and away from the usual chores and such of everyday life.

Vacations are a wonderful time to step back, relax, and ponder great mysteries of life…or simply ponder nothing and re-ground. It’s a time to avoid the daily stress of work, and do whatever the heck you feel like today. Very zen, I suppose, living more in NOW than the usual “first this, then this” routines I do at work.

And this vacation was perfect for that type of thing. We went camping (details see post above). Nothing planned other than arrival and departure. The filler space was at our leisure, and it. was. good.

Lately, with the hectic work schedule and summery weather outside, I have done less esoteric musing, and more being outside playing lately. Sorry for those of you after daily updates here. Life is being lived, not written up these past few days.

And speaking of life, we have a new digital camera to document all those little Life moments! I’m still learning the basics, and having trouble figuring out how to easily make thumbnails of the pics to put online instead of making tiny copies of each and every image (thus doubling th# of files on my site). so, if you’d like to see some random pictures, check out the rest of this blog entry… WARNING- links included below, but following them is not safe for dialup!

Sorry everyone for the lack of updates lately. It’s been a rough couple of weeks at work and home.

Was ‘holding down the fort’ the last two weeks in June while my co-worker took a vacation to remodel his home. Then, this week I have been on night-shift covering for the other print-person.

This week has been particularly bad since for some reason I simply can not fall asleep after I get home, until the wife and kid get back indoors at which time I am rather obligated to spent a bit of time with them. So I’m running on an average of 3-4 hours of solid sleep, even though technically I am in bed tossing for the appropriate 7-8 hours each day. Sadly, those hours are split between 9-noon in the AM then 8pm-midnight, so I jsut do not feel rested at all. Heck, I even completely forgot to login to gmail and this blog for an entie two days. Meh!

We went to see the new Transformers movie, which was pretty good and all action-packed. Unfortunately, I want to see it again since I zoned out and needed to have the wife catch me up what happened in the middle. Don’t think I was actually asleep, since my eyes were open, but brain just disengaged and drifted off somewhere I guess. Actually, the whole July 4th was a blurry fog of staring at the ceiling and then muddling my way through lunch/dinner, then crashing before the sun set. No fun!

So, in other news I got a new digital camera for Tammy as an anniversary present. It is SWEET compared to our current/old one, and I will take some similar pictures and post them comparison-style on this blog once I wake up next week and remember to do it.
