May [June] Goals - results [plans]

Posted by maebius on 01 Jun 2007 | Tagged as: Druidic, Stickied, Questions

In the spirit if my good friend Nettle’s Blog, who posts her monthly goals and then does a follow-up at the end to describe the actual results of the practice…Here goes my new monthly posting.

Firstly, let me say that May became sort of non-existent as far as these official goals went…so the same goals apply for June with the exception of festival being switched out for more seasonal fa[i]re…

Not sure what happened but not only did the days slip away faster than I realized, the whole goal-concept completely vacated my brain, so I didn’t even think I was ‘forgetting’ to do anything.

Goals for May/June:

Earth Path: At least once each week spend fifteen minutes or more in direct contact with the natural world. Read at least one books on the natural history of the area. Make one change in your lifestyle in order to take less from the Earth and give more back. Plant at least one tree.

Did a few lunch-breaks, but work got hectic and swingy-shifted a lot this month. Plan to be more mindful of such things this month. Still have to hit the library in my “free time” and see what local books are out there. Attempted to persuade the wife to try cutting back on paper towels and use regular cloth ones..no luck there. Still, have gotten much better at turning off lights, computer, and such when not in use! :) Trees doing well.

Sun Path: Celebrate the year!

Garden is now tilled, 1/2 planted and various other fixer-up projects are well under way! June bonfire and drum-meditation planned!
Moon Path: Meditate, daily if possible. Also practice some form of movement meditation at least once a week.

Actually did pretty decent on the meditations. Averaging three times a week. No movement stuff yet, but only because in the back of my mind all the garden work kinda counts for this. It’s grounding, cardio-athletic at times, and such. :) Continue in this regard next month.
Spiral Paths: …to be determined. Since I’m not a fully vested AODA participant yet, I am still torn on which spiral to work on, so I’m going to leave May open to experimenting with a few different ones. Leaning towards Magic specifically, and possibly Sacred Geometry. Will obviously continue learning my herbalism, but I’m not counting that as Healing work since it’s more an ongoing practice of mnie anyway and doesn’t feel like it should count as “learning new thing” which I see the Spirals as. …. Also, plan on having a working proto-type of my Web-game by the end of the month, though that is not exactly the same sort of thing the Spirals entail.

Still thinking the magic spiral, or perhaps divination…Will discuss more with friends to see what rings most ‘true’ or useful. Will be sending in the official membership check in the next week or so!

Yard work!

The past few days we have been finishing up some long-awaited projects around the house. We finished tilling and (mostly) planting the garden. We built a trellis for wisteria at the “garden gate”, and such. If you’d like to read all about the joy and improvements going on around Everthorn, read below…(pictures included, so may load slower)

Warcraft - to build a guild

Posted by maebius on 13 Jun 2007 | Tagged as: Games

I’ve taken the initiative to make a simple little web-template for a World of Warcraft guild.

The basic style is from another template I found on the web, with some moderate photoshopping, re-editing, and such to make it a bit more simplistic and easier to update.

If you’d like to take a peek at it, I would REALLY appreciate any comments regarding it being too simple, too fancy, whatever.

The forums you can view, but most topics you can not post to.

Of eagles and eels - adventures in Zoar Valley

((re-edited on 06/22 for clarity and completeness..))

So last weekend we shuffled off to Buffalo for the wife’s Goddaughter’s 13th birthday. (She’s an official teen! O.M.G.) anyway, the plan was to relax a bit on Saturday, socialize a bit at the party, and then…the part I went along for…a hike Sunday morning down a new stretch of Zoar Valley.

To prevent my personal respiratory arrest, the folks were nice enough to setup a huge tend out in the backyard for us to sleep in. (Cats, VERY fuzzy dogs, etc. I look like a leprous elephant unless I take a few kilos of antihistamine, which then makes the brain go mush). That was a lot of fun, and Doug enjoyed ‘camping’ also. Eight Random Facts…

Posted by maebius on 27 Jun 2007 | Tagged as: Stories, Questions

Nettle tagged me with the “Eight Random Facts” meme.

I fear I only really, REALLY know about 4 people who have blogs, and two of them were tagged already (and the others I know do not blog frequently and never read this site, so…”Meh”. I am going to have to stretch a bit for that rule and give myself a “mulligan” on that. Sorry.
These are the rules:

  • Post eight random facts about yourself.
  • Tag eight other bloggers (hopefully those who haven’t been tagged before).
  • Post these rules.

#1: I have learned that deep-fried and lightly breaded Comfrey leaves are pretty darn tasty! Sort of like an eggplant with more greeny and less auberginey flavors. Not quite up to full-time side-dish, but was an interesting experiment nonetheless.

#2: At work, my favorite snack is salted sunflower seeds in the shell. Not only do you get the salty yum from sucking the outsides, the joy of cracking the shells and extracting the nutty gem inside is more fun than should be legal while re-installing computer software. :) Though I can tear through one of the little 50cent bags in a single day…which is often not as healthy as I should be.

#3: Purple, followed by a rich emerald green, is my favorite color…and speaking of color, I find it strange to see written without the U. So unless I make myself take note, I type that word like the Brits, and get mocked for using ‘Colour‘ in everyday work-mails sometimes….other words like Litre look wrong, so it’s not a generalized Pro-European spell-thing. Weird, eh?

#4: I harbor a secret desire to quit my job, leave my current life, and run away to backpack across the country (or win the lottery and fly around the world) alone for a year. Won’t happen due to many other responsibilities, of course, but it is something that keeps popping up to dream about sometimes.

#5: Once, when I was a boy-scout in my middle-teens, I carved a rather nice walking stick from a sweet Birch tree (Betula lenta) with a rough face, a ring of trees topped by storm clouds and lightning, and topped by an engraved ‘N’ suitable for using to stamp with. I still have that stick, though it is old and worn, and is currently being used as a hanger for a row of yard-sale clothes.

#6: In Lititz, PA, there is a small one-way side-road that runs behind the town park. The end of this little street is a T intersection, and is where many kids walk to/from School. I noticed that cars would consistantly stay to the right at this stop sign, then try to make a left-hand turn (like at most roads). However, sometimes other cars, bikes, and walkers would be in the left-hand lane turning left also, and need to avoid a minor collision. To prevent this, I petitioned the town to paint simple turning arrows in the road as a economic and efficient preventative measure. It was accepted, and my letter got published in the local papers.

#7: I like pie. I like strawberry rhubarb pie a lot. I like a good banana creme pie with graham-cracker crust an even lotter. :)

#8: I recently got a fishing license and brand spanking new rod for Fathers Day. Hopefully, to take out the kid and fish since my son got one with a plastic fish and now spends HOURS casting the thing in the yard, driveway, house, car, and anywhere else he can manage to sneak it with him. My fishing rod is silver. I like it. I have a space-themed sticker from one of those quarter-machines that I will be putting on the handle once it catches it’s first fish.
